American Bar Association / Law Student Division

Where the Path to a Successful Legal Career Begins

The American Bar Association/Law Student Division is an organization of students attending ABA accredited American Law Schools.  Thomas M. Cooley Law School is honored to have one of the strongest Chapter programs in the nation, having recently won ABA's "Highest Overall Membership."  Cooley, along with 16 other law schools, from Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky, is in the Sixth Circuit.

The ABA/LSD offers student interaction with the national American Bar Association on many different levels.  Various committees such as Diversity, Elections, Advocacy, etc., exist to assist students with issues that fall within these parameters.  Students are encouraged to apply for National Liaison Positions which match the student's interest with the ABA Committees.  The ABA also sponsors numerous competitions:  arbitration, client counseling, negotiation, appellate advocacy, and writing contests.  These competitions are open to all students who wish to compete.

In addition to leadership and academic opportunities, ABA/LSD offers other benefits regarding insurance, bar exam prep course discounts, car rental discounts, and many networking opportunities throughout the country.  Cooley  has an Executive Board and offers Class Representative positions to three students in each of the nine classes.  Attendance at meetings and participation in the organization is open to the entire student body.

The ABA/LSD also serves as a voice for the students of Cooley, presents community service opportunities, and strives to provide career information and networking.  Further, it provides review sessions at the end of each term to assist students in preparing for finals.  The ABA/LSD currently has over 51,500+ members.  It welcomes new students and encourages participation in an array of activities.  To become a member, or find out more information, please contact: abalsd@cooley.edu
